“The fact that we live at the bottom of a deep gravity well, on the surface of a gas covered planet going around a nuclear fireball 90 million miles away and think this to be normal is obviously some indication of how skewed our perspective tends to be.”
― Douglas Adams

View from my hotel room.  Only thing changed was zoom, time of day, and angle. I was mesmerized by the view.  Simply said, a different vantage point completely changed my perspective of what I was looking at.

“There are no facts, only interpretations.”
― Friedrich Nietzsche

I had to change my room but they only moved me one floor down and same side of the building but over about 5 rooms.  Again, same view but slightly different view point.

“One person’s craziness is another person’s reality.”
― Tim Burton

A tiny movement of your body can show you things you never saw or hide things you want to ignore.  The same rationale should be used when looking at people.  And in my opinion it is how we should look at life in general.

“We’re so self-important. So arrogant. Everybody’s going to save something now. Save the trees, save the bees, save the whales, save the snails. And the supreme arrogance? Save the planet! Are these people kidding? Save the planet? We don’t even know how to take care of ourselves; we haven’t learned how to care for one another. We’re gonna save the fuckin’ planet? . . . And, by the way, there’s nothing wrong with the planet in the first place. The planet is fine. The people are fucked! Compared with the people, the planet is doin’ great. It’s been here over four billion years . . . The planet isn’t goin’ anywhere, folks. We are! We’re goin’ away. Pack your shit, we’re goin’ away. And we won’t leave much of a trace. Thank God for that. Nothing left. Maybe a little Styrofoam. The planet will be here, and we’ll be gone. Another failed mutation; another closed-end biological mistake.”
― George Carlin

“Look again at that dot. That’s here. That’s home. That’s us. On it everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever was, lived out their lives. The aggregate of our joy and suffering, thousands of confident religions, ideologies, and economic doctrines, every hunter and forager, every hero and coward, every creator and destroyer of civilization, every king and peasant, every young couple in love, every mother and father, hopeful child, inventor and explorer, every teacher of morals, every corrupt politician, every “superstar,” every “supreme leader,” every saint and sinner in the history of our species lived there-on a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam.

The Earth is a very small stage in a vast cosmic arena. Think of the endless cruelties visited by the inhabitants of one corner of this pixel on the scarcely distinguishable inhabitants of some other corner, how frequent their misunderstandings, how eager they are to kill one another, how fervent their hatreds. Think of the rivers of blood spilled by all those generals and emperors so that, in glory and triumph, they could become the momentary masters of a fraction of a dot.

Our posturings, our imagined self-importance, the delusion that we have some privileged position in the Universe, are challenged by this point of pale light. Our planet is a lonely speck in the great enveloping cosmic dark. In our obscurity, in all this vastness, there is no hint that help will come from elsewhere to save us from ourselves.

The Earth is the only world known so far to harbor life. There is nowhere else, at least in the near future, to which our species could migrate. Visit, yes. Settle, not yet. Like it or not, for the moment the Earth is where we make our stand.

It has been said that astronomy is a humbling and character-building experience. There is perhaps no better demonstration of the folly of human conceits than this distant image of our tiny world. To me, it underscores our responsibility to deal more kindly with one another, and to preserve and cherish the pale blue dot, the only home we’ve ever known.”

Landlubber

land·lub·ber
[ˈlan(d)ˌləbər]  NOUN
informal ~~~ a person unfamiliar with the sea or sailing.

Extension (with land) of earlier lubber. Compare also landloper . ( nautical, derogatory) Someone unfamiliar with the sea or seamanship, especially a novice seaman .

We are tied to the ocean. And when we go back to the sea, whether it is to sail or to watch – we are going back from whence we came.  ~~John F. Kennedy

It’s what we call… people afraid of the sea or unfamiliar with the sea or those who are very easily seasick or someone who has never been in the open ocean.   People who do not respect the power, beauty, and awe of the ocean and even those who love looking at the ocean from the safety of the shore.

The fishermen know that the sea is dangerous and the storm terrible, but they have never found these dangers sufficient reason for remaining ashore. ~~Vincent Van Gogh

I accept and respect that it is not for everyone.  Even if I do not understand it I respect it.  It just means more ocean for me.  To truly enjoy being in the middle of the ocean, you need a vessel.  A ship.  A boat.  Whatever you want to call it.. you need something to float on.

If you want to build a ship, don’t drum up people to collect wood and don’t assign them tasks and work, but rather teach them to long for the endless immensity of the sea. ~~Antoine de Saint-Exupery

I mean you got to start somewhere right?  Ok, I didn’t buy it but was completely mesmerized with it.  Along with these other boats spotted on the water in Doha.

“We need the tonic of wildness…At the same time that we are earnest to explore and learn all things, we require that all things be mysterious and unexplorable, that land and sea be indefinitely wild, unsurveyed and unfathomed by us because unfathomable. We can never have enough of nature.”  ~~ Henry David Thoreau

The sea does not reward those who are too anxious, too greedy, or too impatient. One should lie empty, open, choiceless as a beach – waiting for a gift from the sea. ~~Anne Morrow Lindbergh

Other boats, floaters, ships, kayaks, and rafts, in other places.

“I must be a mermaid, Rango. I have no fear of depths and a great fear of shallow living.”
~~ Anais Nin

The sea, once it casts its spell, holds one in its net of wonder forever.  ~~Jacques Yves Cousteau

“I have been feeling very clearheaded lately and what I want to write about today is the sea. It contains so many colors. Silver at dawn, green at noon, dark blue in the evening. Sometimes it looks almost red. Or it will turn the color of old coins. Right now the shadows of clouds are dragging across it, and patches of sunlight are touching down everywhere. White strings of gulls drag over it like beads.

It is my favorite thing, I think, that I have ever seen. Sometimes I catch myself staring at it and forget my duties. It seems big enough to contain everything anyone could ever feel.”
~~ Anthony Doerr

dream·scape

/ˈdrēmskāp/

noun
  1. a landscape or scene with the strangeness or mystery characteristic of dreams.
“surrealism’s popular manifestations were the dreamscapes of Salvador Dali”

“Red light flickered behind her closed eyelids, and when she opened them, she discovered that they were surrounded by flames.
    Let it burn….
His sleek brow wrinkled, and he shook his head. Poor man looked conflicted, which was an interesting expression on a nightmare. “Your city is on fire.”
She smiled languidly. “Ain’t it grand?”
    ― Erin Kellison

“As the dreamscape around me grows clearer, I slip further away from it. The mind is a magical thing, I’m discovering. A dreamscape is made of thought and is wider than the sky, able to grow large enough to fit not just our own world, but every possibility and impossibility beyond it. Once I quit thinking of it as being forced into the laws of physics, it’s easy to manipulate the dreamscape into anything I want. I don’t know how I know all this, no more than I understand how I know things when I dream. I just do.
I throw up my hand, and a wall rises between the orange grove and me. Behind the wall, I start creating the world I need in Representative Belles’s mind.”

Hobnobber

Hobnobber – noun –  hob·nob | \ ˈhäb-ˌnäb  \   hobnobbed; hobnobbing.  A person frequently seen in the company of another.

Definition of hobnob  – intransitive verb   1:  archaic : to drink sociably  2: to associate familiarlyAnother word for the same thing that I did not know was “compeer”.  However, upon further digging, to “hobnob” actually means attempting to frequent yourself with those of a higher class or status while “compeer”  signifies associating with one that is equal to another in status, achievement, or value. To me the difference between the two is exemplified in the below quote.

“Fitting in is about assessing a situation and becoming who you need to be to be accepted. Belonging, on the other hand, doesn’t require us to change who we are; it requires us to be who we are.”  ― Brené Brown

I have been fortunate enough, more often than not, to be surrounded by compeers rather than to be stuck hobnobbing with those who either were (or felt they were) at a higher class or status than I.

Hobnobbery can be snobbery but can at times be fun.  But life in general should be more about being completely yourself.  This is an opinion of mine that is not often accepted or respected.  I do believe that in the end all we are left with is our one true self.  Being myself has really created, for me, a safe place.  A place where I know who I know and I am who I am.  I have reached some of the highest heights but eventually, I always land back in the comfortable place and in the comforting arms of those I love and understand the most.  And I really think (or at least I hope) that “mostly” they all feel the same about me.

“My peers are my role models, and my role models are my peers. Which is extraordinary.”  ― David Levithan

Badassery

Badass. (vulgar); (slang) A badass is someone who is very tough or mean. Don’t mess with him, he’s a real badass! (slang) A person who has extreme attitudes and behavior and is admired by others. In this sense, calling someone a badass is a compliment.

After three years of life kicking my ass, I feel like I need to visit some of my more outstanding personalities for a change.  The personality that did not allow my ass to be kicked.  The personality that permitted me to jump back up no matter what laid me down.  The personality that assured me that I was not the weaker link and that I mattered.  I am slowly regaining my smojo!!  (Yes, I did just make up that word and that is A-O-K.  That is because I am:

Savage, not Average.

That’s the only way to bounce back up.  Find the attitude, don’t need to be rude, just know that those who mess with you are likely to be less than you.
I rarely take pics of myself but of all of the ones I have taken, there is something about this one from my time in Lagos that just makes me smile every – single – time.  First off, I think we all look a little badass. I am NOT tough or mean but this picture makes me feel like I could surely play the part if needed.  Personally, I think it was more the company I kept.  Cool group of people and full of life and fun.  And yes true badasses.  A time I will never forget.  This picture.  Nothing more needs to be said.
