A Photo That.. reblogged from August 2012

Well, I usually don’t do this but I’m re-blogging one of my old favorite posts. This post was put together based on a contest that had already passed. I liked the idea so much that I decided to follow the post challenge and submit this blog based on that challenge. It’s still one of my favorite posts and I’m actually inspired to try to follow this idea on an annual basis. It was fun looking back and I want to thank the most recent commenter on this post who reminded me about it. Thank you blueribbonfair…

I hope you enjoy.

The Hostel Bookers 7 Super Shots photo challenge was held in January 2012. I wasn’t blogging back then but someone sent me the link thinking I might enjoy the challenge and they were correct.  The photos highlighted on that site were amazing.  I’m not competing in the contest obviously, but it was just a fun way to go back over some of the photos I have taken over the past few years and see what would fit where in each of the following 7 categories.

Even though I know that the contest is over, and you should also be aware of this, I wanted to participate whole-heartedly in this past contest that will reap me no reward other than my own personal satisfaction.  So here goes. I hope you enjoy looking at the pictures as much as I enjoyed taking them and revisiting them.

For the purpose of the contest I had to choose 7 of my own photos, one for each of the following categories:

  • A photo that…takes my breath away

  • A photo that…makes me laugh or smile

  • A photo that…makes me dream

  • A photo that…makes me think

  • A photo that…makes my mouth water

  • A photo that…tells a story

  • A photo that…I am most proud of (aka my worthy of National Geographic shot)

I like some of the following blogs for their amazing photographs and style, others for their incredible wit and ability to entertain.  Other’s largely because they offer guidance on some topics I am interested in, like food, travel and photography reviews. Finally, I feel these particular blogs have something to contribute to the blogging world and the world in general.  So in no particular order, here are some of my favorites.  I will probably edit the list to add more, but these are just off the top of my head.  Thanks for reading all.

A Word a Week Challenge Theme ‘Zoom’

This is my first time working with A WORD IN YOUR EAR‘s Weekly Photo Challenges.  What I like about this particular one is it offers opportunities to enhance your knowledge about photography techniques as well as just some of the terms that relate to photography.

This week’s theme is ‘Zoom’.   Obviously this word relates to bringing things that are far away closer.. I also like some of the other interpretations of zoom that were presented on this blog.

It’s a very interesting challenge and not as easy as one would think if you love to take close-ups of people.  I have some favorite facial zooms that others were not entirely pleased with but I love them because they are very natural and beautiful.  So my first small set will be of some of my favorite zooms of people and things.

Travel theme: Circles

This week’s Travel theme is circles.  Most of my favorite circles surround the theme wine.. and If I’m wining, I’m usually dining.  Enjoy some of my random circle art finds as well.

SUNDAY POST : City

JakesPrinter’s has brought another great theme for this week.  CITY

After reviewing all of my favorite shots from my favorite cities I found too many to narrow down.  So what I decided to do is pick my favorite city to highlight and post some of my favorite pictures from that ONE city.. and for the others.. well.. I couldn’t just ignore them so they will need to follow in a slideshow.  Now if you’ve read a few of my past posts you will know what city I’m going to profile.  I hope you enjoy.

Addictions – Behind the glass

Speaking of obsessions.. you didn’t realize we were?  Well, we were.  You have hoarders, travel junkies, wine and beer aficionados, smokers.. and on the list goes. I have always prided myself in not having any addictions.  I’m the most normal person I know.  Right? Do you sense where this is going?

Well, let me start by saying, I just created a post regarding some of my fav photes and spoke of a woman who for 10 years has been taking random pictures of random things just for fun.  I have another friend who for some reason loves to photograph herself with only her eyes showing.  Tons of photos of her face from her eyes up.  It’s cool, fantastic and a little strange. The newest craze in photo-taking seems to be of oneself in front of a mirror with the camera showing you taking a picture of yourself.  I’m just glad I don’t have a random photo taking frenzy that consumes my life.. or do I?

Upon a recent review of a multitude of photo albums that I have put together I have come across a disturbing trend, an obsession I did not know I had.. or even upon knowing did not think it was that much of an addiction.  Here are just a few of the behind the glass photos I have taken over the past year.  They say the first step in solving a problem is admitting you have one.  Enjoy and do not mock me.
