Golden Faces Golden Places

All that is gold does not glitter,
Not all those who wander are lost;
The old that is strong does not wither,
Deep roots are not reached by the frost.

― J.R.R. Tolkien, The Fellowship of the Ring

Ailsa’s Travel theme this week was gold.  What is gold to one is not necessarily gold to another. Here are a few of my interpretations about what is golden to me.  I hope you enjoy.

Golden in Turkey

Golden in Korea

Golden in Nepal

Best Golden moments though were the ones I spent back home with my family and friends.

Comparison of Arches in Istanbul and New Delhi

You say to a brick, ‘What do you want, brick?’ And brick says to you, ‘I like an arch.’ And you say to brick, ‘Look, I want one, too, but arches are expensive and I can use a concrete lintel.’ And then you say: ‘What do you think of that, brick?’ Brick says: ‘I like an arch.’

The Romans were not inventors of the supporting arch, but its extended use in vaults and intersecting barrel shapes and domes is theirs. ~~~Harry Seidler

Edges

I want to stand as close to the edge as I can without going over. Out on the edge you see all the kinds of things you can’t see from the center.

Kurt Vonnegut

A few random shots of edges that I really liked from a few different countries that I have been in over the past few months.  I hope you enjoy.

“Where are you going?” I asked.
“The middle of nowhere.”
“I thought this was it.”
“Nah.” You shook your head. “This is just the edge.”

Dreamy – Istanbul

Still in Istanbul Turkey.  Actually I’m back in Nepal but dreaming of being back in Istanbul.  Great food. Kind people and some of the most dreamy sites you can imagine.  I hope you enjoy.

Inside

Who looks outside, dreams; who looks inside, awakes.

The interior of the Basilica Cistern is nothing like what it appears from the outside.  Day two of our tour of Istanbul brought us to one of the most beautiful tourist attractions that I have had the fortune of passing through.

Aside from the Medusa’s Heads.. the entire place was amazing.  You could even dress up in traditional cultural garb and walk away with a photo of yourself.  So lovely and peaceful.  I hope you enjoy.
